Why Washington D.C. Roofing Is Different

D.C. roofs aren't generic suburban roofs. Mt. Pleasant, Capitol Hill, Cleveland Park, Petworth, Brookland, and Bloomingdale row houses have low-slope or flat roofs with party walls, parapet walls, and limited rear access. Many Cleveland Park, Chevy Chase, and Forest Hills homes still carry their original natural slate from the 1920s and 1930s. Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Silver Spring, and Kensington have a mix of post-war asphalt and architectural shingle homes. Each of these requires different materials, different flashing details, and different access plans.

We work in D.C. historic districts and HOA-governed neighborhoods regularly. We pull permits, follow Historic Preservation Office requirements when needed, and coordinate with HOAs on color and material approvals. Our crews navigate alley access, rear-only access, and tight urban work sites every week.
